How do I get a job in banking in Birmingham Uk?

I currently live in the states but am planning on moving to the UK within the coming year. I work for a bank here and love what I do. But I don’t know how the banking system works over there, what banks are prominent over there or if they credit unions or something similar to credit unions? Ultimately, how do I get a job with a good bank in Birmingham UK, from the states?

jobs abroad are really an exciting prospect, but you have to be really careful of the law-related implications, if you don’t perform your research well, there can be unpleasant conseqences! The website in the box below has a lot of guidance on jobs abroad, my friend stumbled upon it, now he is a barman in Tasmania!

I live in nottingham (which is about an hour away from me)
I think the banking systems are similar to yours. We have credit unions :)
it’s not so bad. I don’t think it would be a drastic change.
although brummy accents are awful. ¬¬

Presumably you mean retail banking. HSBC, Barclays, Lloyds and RBS dominate highstreet banking in the UK. The latter two are now effectively owned by the UK Government, but likely to be sold back into the private sector in the next 5 yrs. As such they are places under the same pressure as other banks but also find sacking people politically difficult so may operate at a premium (weird as it sounds) for jobseekers.

There are credit unions in the UK, but they are usually known as Building Societies, and have largely turned into banks proper over the last 15 yrs.

Birmingham is the second biggest city in the UK – not that you may notice it there(!) – so there are loads of branches of banks. Try going to the websites of the institutions named above and see what vacancies they have…below see the link to HSBC’s portal where you can search for jobs in Birmingham.

    Good luck
